2022 marks MIDIOR’s 25th year in business. For me, these 25 years came and went in what feels like the blink of an eye - a blur of client meetings, working sessions, conference calls, travel (yes, I really do mean that), networking events and team lunches. Before we move beyond the global health crisis that has colored our world for the past two years and shift our focus to the future, both reflection and celebration are in order so I hope you will indulge me.

The business was started with our first project in October of 1996, but we officially incorporated as The ASET Group in January of 1997. Our initial objective was to simply “do a few projects” for colleagues until we identified a “technology product company” to buy – we fancied ourselves product people who also happened to be engineers and we had just unwound our first software startup, so consulting was not considered a viable long-term plan. Clearly our perspective evolved and for that, I am most grateful. Our history is certainly peppered with pivotal moments that challenged our perseverance and tenacity as business owners, ranging from our most challenging year (2001) which included the dot-com crash, the horror of September 11 and the subsequent layoff of 3/4 of our staff to the recession of 2008, and the more recent challenges presented by COVID-19. However, these circumstances were tempered by many more high points including our name change to MIDIOR in 1999, the purchase of our building in Harvard Square in 2001, the launch of two pilot concepts, MIDIOR Art & Design and MIDIOR Ventures in 2003, the formalization of our Technology & Data practice in 2004, our decision to center our industry focus on financial services in 2010, the acquisition of Stages of Innovation in 2014 and between 2020 and today, our ability to continue supporting our clients with the high touch, quality services that they expect despite the pandemic.

I like to think that our 25 years of success can be attributed to an unwavering commitment to our core values, most importantly our dedication to our employees, our clients, and our community. But I also know that this was underscored by our commitment to excellence on all the things that tend to be taken for granted in the regular course of business. These include, but of course are not limited to, the hiring of key employees, many successful collaborations with our clients, our thought leadership related to product organizations, our consistent excellence supporting product teams with analysis and research, the development of our mobile application for our benefit fund clients, the launch of our full suite of data conversion and data operations services, and genuine attention to regular planning and fiscal prudence.

I will close by saying that I count myself one of the lucky ones and am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride. I have never had the “Sunday Scaries” since I love my job, my firm, and my colleagues and so, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to my business partner, Michael, the MIDIOR team and our many alumni, our clients, past and present, as well as our partners for your loyal support and belief in me and the firm throughout the years. I look forward to what we can all accomplish together in the future! I hope you'll follow us on social media throughout the year as we share the highlights of our 25-year journey.

Warmly,

Susan

We are thrilled to announce that the member self-service app we built for the North Atlantic States Carpenters Benefit Funds has reached over 14,000 users. With this mobile app, connecting unions and benefit funds to their members and the information they need has never been easier. We are also pleased to share that the app now features a Spanish language display option for members who prefer to view their information in Spanish. We hope to roll out more languages in the near future, and we thank the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters for our continued great work together.

MIDIOR in the Community

Earlier this year, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of Susan Penta as the new Chair of its Women's Network Advisory Board. In this new role, Susan will lead a diverse and dynamic group of senior-level women from the Chamber’s Board of Directors and general membership. The Advisory Board helps to shape the vision and strategy of the Women’s Network to successfully connect, advance, and celebrate professional women in the region.

In February, Susan kicked off the network's exciting lineup of events for 2022 with The Journey to Success: Celebrating Female Entrepreneurs, which featured some of the area's top female entrepreneurs as they shared their journeys building successful businesses.

The Women's Network signature event, The Pinnacle Awards, was held at the Omni Seaport Hotel on March 4th. As a long time sponsor, our team attended its first in-person community event in almost 2 years, celebrating the accomplishments of this year's stellar class of honorees who demonstrated resilience, strength and impact despite global challenges.

As part of the pre-event workshops, Susan moderated a virtual panel featuring several of her fellow past Pinnacle Award honorees in a lively discussion on Empowering Leadership. The discussion focused on the importance of working with and supporting women across generations and how it creates a positive ripple effect for different perspectives, skills and collaborative relationships.

One of the highlights of our year took place on March 29th, as Susan sat down with Hill Holliday's Karen Kaplan as she shared her journey from receptionist to CEO of one of the largest marketing agencies in the country. Touching on everything from embracing opportunity to leading during the pandemic to the importance of championing women, this lively session definitely left the audience wishing for more!

On April 6th, MIDIOR proudly sponsored the Center for Women and Enterprise's annual fundraiser, Celebrating Women Who Lift Up the World After two years of having to hold this event virtually, the organizers were thrilled to welcome guests back in-person for a night of inspiring programming and exciting bidding. Congratulations to the CWE team on successfully raising $290,000, surpassing their fundraising goal by nearly $50,000!

As a founding member of WPI's Women's Impact Network, Susan Penta has always demonstrated a passion for education, leadership and philanthropy, which she shares with this diverse group of visionary women in this organization. On February 8th, she participated in an interactive presentation on entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship: Ideation to Creation and Beyondduring which she and WPI Professor Rosanna Garcia shared their experiences and ideas on how attendees can get their ideas off the ground and take their businesses to the next level.

In honor of International Women's Day, Susan Penta participated in an enlightening panel discussion, Unpacking the Shecession: Reimagining a New Workforce for a New World. Over the past two years, women have left the workforce at an unprecedented rate. They often occupy jobs that require them to physically show up to work, yet many are also parents with young children at home who need oversight and attention or are the caretakers of aging parents. As a result, in the last quarter of 2021 alone, as many as 1 in 3 women reported considering leaving their job, reducing work hours, or changing jobs. Panelists discussed the lack of policies that allow people to balance caregiving and work responsibilities, pay inequality, and the outdated view of the expendability of women in the workforce.
